INTRODUCTION TO MEDITATION:
The great spiritual
traditions of both East and West have throughout the ages promoted various
forms of meditation as important practices to foster spiritual awakening and
development. As an independent practice, to supplement other spiritual or
religious practices, for stress management and relaxation, or all of the above,
this course will provide the theoretical framework and practices drawn from an
ancient and time-honored tradition. Included will be basic breathing and stress
reduction techniques. They lay the foundation for access to avenues leading to
the stillness within. The class consists of 4 two-hour sessions meeting once a
week for 4 consecutive weeks.
Legs - right and left: how they
correspond to the mind and the heart
"Do you know that two legs are
much better than one? Yes, of course, you will say you have known that for a
long time. So why do you stay perched on one leg? You do – I keep seeing you
hopping on one leg instead of walking. There are those who always respond from
the heart, their left leg (meaning that they do not think) and those who always
respond from their mind, their right leg (meaning that they lack kindness or
tolerance). They are all one-legged! You see, there are so many things you think
you know, but as you do not put them into practice you do not know them.
Why does nature make us walk by
moving one leg forward and then the other? The answer is simple: it is to
remind us that we must respond sometimes from our heart and sometimes from our
mind. To behave rightly, we must use the masculine and feminine principles
alternately and know at what point to change the polarity. How many problems
seem insoluble only because you do not know how to use both legs to go
forward!"
