Enjoy your holiday on the beach: Prevent accidents

There’s nothing like a warm beach when it comes to enjoying your summer holidays. It’s like a perfect spot for spending the summer days, making barbeques and playing beach ball or volley ball in the open with your friends or family. And then there is sunbathing and surfing and a lot of rowing to spend your amazing day. But you must make sure that safety is maintained for you and anyone else near you. Some necessary points to keep in mind are described below.

Knowing how to swim is an absolute necessary. There can be high tides or you can topple while on a surfing board and just the knowledge of swimming can save your life, or you can try to save someone else’s life if you find he is in trouble. If there is a possibility that you can swim then make sure you don’t go off deep into the sea and always keep some floatation device like rubber rings that can protect you in case of need.

Sunburns can be equally dangerous. The ultraviolet rays emitted from the sun can be a real danger at some places. And sunburns are a major cause of skin cancer on an account of prolonged exposure to the heat. Research shows that getting sun burnt a large number of times before the age of eighteen can also lead to a disease called “melanoma”, which can turn out to be fatal. So it is always advisable to use sun creams and tanning lotions before planning out for spending a bright sunny day on the beach.

Even if you are a good swimmer, you must stay away from places where can be sharks or jellyfishes. Though this is rarely applicable to most of the beaches, but still there are at least a hundred cases of shark attacks or jellyfish poisoning throughout the world every year. So be alert and stay cautious.

Some other points to keep in mind -

  • Don’t go out to the beach during nights as the tides can be higher.
  • Don’t plan a beach party on a stormy day.
  • Don’t panic if you accidentally fall into water. Stay calm and try to swim, or call out for help.
  • Don’t wander off into the open sea without informing someone.
  • If you want to enjoy the summer ocean breeze with your friends and family, follow some of these safety rules.
